Spitfire Audio - Studio Strings Professional

Spitfire Audio's Studio Strings Professional is the expanded, "no-stone-unturned" version of their Studio Strings line. Unlike their famous Symphonic or Chamber libraries recorded in the massive, reverberant Lyndhurst Hall, this was recorded in AIR Studio One—a much smaller, "drier" space.
This makes it arguably the most versatile library in their catalog for modern pop, Scandi-noir, or tight cinematic scores where you want to add your own reverb later.
Key Features of the Professional Edition
While the "Core" version gives you the basic section, Professional massive increases the scale and control:
Expanded Section Size: Includes a large band (16, 12, 12, 12, 4) in addition to the standard medium ensemble (8, 6, 6, 6, 4).
Divisi Control: It offers "Half Sections" (e.g., 4 players instead of 8), allowing for much more detailed, realistic part-writing without the "synthetic" sound of layering full sections.
Microphone Signals: You get 6 mic positions (Close, Tree, Ambient, Outriggers, etc.) and 2 pro mixes by Simon Rhodes. The Core version only includes the Tree mic.
Massive Articulation List: 232 articulations, including everything from soaring legatos to rare FX, "Super Flautando," and hairpins.

Why Choose "Professional" Over "Core"?
- Dryness: Because it's recorded in a smaller room, it doesn't have that "instant movie" reverb. This is a pro if you want to place the strings in a custom virtual space using plugins like Altiverb or FabFilter Pro-R.
- Detail: If you are scoring intimate dramas or complex arrangements, the divisi (half-section) patches are essential to avoid the "organ" effect of too many players hitting the same note.
- The "Simon Rhodes" Mixes: For quick turnarounds, the curated mixes included in the Pro version provide a polished, radio-ready sound without having to fiddle with individual mic faders.
Note: If you are tight on storage, be aware that the Professional version is nearly 15x larger than the Core version (210 GB vs. 13 GB) due to the extra mic positions and player configurations.
